Kristen Jensen is a metal person! She started out as a sculpture major because she wasn’t into conceptional art. Jensen says Metal is better because it is easier to manipulate, she has been working with Metal for 2 years now.She is an Undergraduate and is from the Metals & Jewelry BTA program at CSULB School of Art. Some other interests of hers are cooking, reading, working with Fiber Art, drinking Red wine, and she enjoys spending time with her husband.
All of her pieces are made out of some type of metal. She explained to us that her pieces are co-linear with sweeping lines. Many people told her they didn’t think her work was cohesive. The media she used was silver, copper, steel. Before using metal for each project she started out with paper to create her design then finished her final project with different metals. Most of her pieces had lines with smooth finishes. The colors that were used were mostly blue or lime green with orange coming through lightly. It doesn’t matter the size to her, just as long as it is fun creating and making it. The reason way she uses copper instead of silver is because copper is way cheaper to buy. Kristi did mention that some silver is easier to work with than copper.
These pieces that were created started from watching her grandpa fix televisions. While he was doing so she would sit down and just watch him. She got the idea from him that’s why she likes to fix and create things on her own. She stated that’s the only problem she had is naming her art work. Once she gets this problem down with, she will have more art show. One key factor why she likes to play with metal is because she could hit it with a hammer and burn it with fire to shape it the way she wants it to be. None of her prices correlate to one another because she does them with a different technique each time. To top it off, she sometimes wears her pieces that she created.
Kristi caught m attention because she had a bigger crowd. When it came down to her art work , it really liked her necklase with green and black colors, it had like a spiral image in the middle. I also was a fan of the vase she made, they were very unique. Something i would enjoy having in my house.
