About the Artist
Nick Bamford is an undergraduate in the CSULB School of Arts Ceramic. This is his last semester before he graduates from California State University of Long Beach. He wants to continue his art career by going to graduate school at UCLA or Yale. Nick is from up north and moved down to Huntington Beach when he was little. He is currently living in Huntington Beach. He was always interested in art until he took a ceramics class in High School which made him consider getting a degree in Ceramics. In all of his pieces he makes sculptures with ceramics and found objects in a totally different way.
Nick’s work is filled with different materials like found objects and his personal objects. His work is no formal shapes , it is a mix of different colors and shapes including black lights. He tried to change to smaller sculptures since he always does small sculptures. He always liked blacklight so he took this idea and brought it into his art work. There is a lot to look at but his scupltures come together to form one thing. He uses vibrant colors and a large scale to display with art work. There is no shape but just different object that come together.
Nick Bamford’s work creates something new from bringing in found objects with ceramics. When he brings in found objects it puts his pieces to a whole new level many people never seen before. He also told us he wanted to be different by having his whole exhibition in the dark and be one of the first people to do it. His pieces are spur of the moment that create different views by the way you look at it. Another thing Nick told us was that he likes things to just happen on there own without any plan. This is way he considered his exhibition different from others. His favorite piece out of his exhibit would have to be the one with the shopping cart. I would have to agree with him on this one. He likes to make stuff that no one will recognize and this is what makes him unique.
Synthesis/ My Experience
Every artist is unique and I really like his art work. It was very cool because of the lights. It kind of felt like a light show. It was also cool because each art piece had multiple of things combined. I believe this artist is very creative and would love to see more of his art.
